"Love Is Such A Challenge"
By Zach Wood
1 Corinthians 13:1-3
Lately in our small group bible study, we have been going through the
study of what love is and how it is described in the Scriptures. It has
been truly amazing what it has taught our group and what it has taught me.
Every week, I am learning and re-learning what it means to truly show love
to others. Now, if I can just put it into practice!! I am sure most of us
feel that exact way many times.
This week, I just encourage you to open your Bible and read through this
passage I have mentioned above. Read and re-read it. What I have been
realizing is that I find myself getting so caught up in trying to do right
things at home, at work or even at church, but many times not thinking that
I need to do these things with love. I find myself becoming concerned more
about accomplishments and timelines more than taking the time to show others
God's love.
I really like the Apostle Paul's words as he encourages the people to do
all things in love. We can get so wrapped up in the daily routines of life
that we just simply neglect that we are commanded to do things with love to
be a witness to a dying world. It is easy, at least for me, to lose my cool
and treat other people in rude ways, forgetting that my attitude needs to be
loving. It sounds so simple and like nothing new we have heard before, but
it is so hard to put into practice.
In what ways with love are you struggling? Do you find yourself losing
your cool with co-workers regularly? Do you find yourself snapping at your
spouse or children easily? Whatever the situation may be, take hold of the
words in this passage and be reminded that everything should be considered
with love that Christ has for us. When love seems so hard, just remember
how much He expressed love for us by dying on the Cross. When other people
seem so unlovable, think about how unlovable sometimes you can be toward
others as well. We must look to our own hearts and start there. It is
often very difficult to realize that we only have control of how we respond
to others. No matter what happens on their end, we must control our
reactions and responses.
We are commanded to do all things and say all things in love. Sometimes,
we must be firm and be tough with our love, but always with love.
Otherwise, we are an annoying sound and a nuisance to others.
Stay strong and remember that only Christ gives us the strength and
ability to truly love.
