In John 4:7-15, we see an amazing encounter between this Samaritan woman and Jesus. He turns her attention from drinking water to the living water that only He offers. We do not know a lot about this woman, but what we read in this passage explains that she has got some baggage that she has carried around for a while.
In John 8:3-11, the woman is set before her accusers and Jesus. Her accusers are ready to stone her to death. She has dealt with adultery and is ashamed beyond belief. However, Jesus challenges the accusers and the stones drop slowly one by one.
All of us have dealt with weary and burdensome situations in life and still may be in the midst of that now. Jesus invites all who are thirsty. When the world makes us weary and burdened, He invites and never excludes.
He invites those who struggle with drugs, alcohol, pornography, prostitution, self-mutilation, and other severe addictions.
He invites those who struggle also with the stresses of life. The kids leaving you stressed and weary. Your marriage is stressful and on the rocks. The demands of your boss and co-workers is draining you completely each day.
I not only challenge you to remember that Jesus never excludes, but to also remember that we should never exclude anyone from the compassion and love that He has given to us to share with those in need. It is so easy to exclude, but that does not build the Kingdom of God.
If you are feeling weary and burdened, remember that Jesus has an invitation that is always open to you and that He will never turn you away from being lavished with His love. He accepts and loves like no other.
