"Being Content With Who We Are"
By Zach Wood
Psalm 139:14
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together
in my mother's womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully
made;
your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
Who are we? We are children of God made in the beautiful image of God.
He has made each and every one of us very special and unique. We have been
carefully hand crafted and created delicately. God made each of us unlike
any other person.
Sometimes, we tend to forget how wonderful and precious God made us. We
are set apart and need to be content with who we are in Christ, but we tend
to look at other people's qualities and traits and wish we were them. This
is quite easy for us to do. There is nothing wrong with admiring others for
their qualities, but we must be careful to not wish to be just like them.
When we see these traits and qualities, we should be driven more to study
God's Word so that our desire will then be to become more like Him instead
of wanting to be just like the person we admire. No matter how Godly that
person is, that person is not God. We must be directed to Him.
God loves us just as we are and we do not have to be any special way for
Him to love us more. His love for us is constant and never changing. Max
Lucado says in his book "Just Like Jesus" that "God loves you just the way
you are, but He refuses to leave you that way. He wants you to be just like
Jesus." How very true that statement is?
God refuses for us to remain as we are in our walk with Him. His desire
is for us to be become more and more like Him every day. With the pressures
of this world, we are tempted to compare ourselves to others who seem to be
better than we are. It is easy to become dissatisfied with who we are when
we see others who seem to have better qualities. However, the trust of the
matter is that there are people who look at us and see qualities they want
and desire to be more like us.
We must be content with only being the child that God has created us to
be. Our qualities and traits are special and He does not want us to lose
sight of that. Being content with who we are in Christ is where we find
peace and assurance.
