"Invitation For The Tired And Weary"
By Zach Wood
Matthew 11:28
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I
will give you rest.
The last few weeks have proven to be wearing. We have had lots of things
going on each week and my body has been taking and feeling the toll. From
trying to keep the house clean to moving things around for new carpet, from
starting our small group bible study and getting youth group underway and
just other events that have come up, my body has been feeling the toll.
Even this past week, my body has felt the toll and I feel tired. I also
feel weary. Some people can handle a lot and I admire them so much.
However, others of us cannot handle so much and we tend to weary and tire
easily. I have had to wait until now to even write and send this devotional
because I have felt so tired and weary this week. I am not sad or
depressed, but just feel the weariness of a tired body from everything going
on.
Not only have I felt the toll, but so has my wife. We are, any day now,
expecting the arrival of our second baby girl. My wife has been feeling the
body toll as well. She is tired and weary and I see it every day. I come
home each day from work and see her worn out from a day of activities and
taking care of our energetic little girl, Jayda. My heart breaks because I
know she is just so ready to deliver this baby and feel relief from the
pregnancy.
It is interesting because I was previewing our small group material last
weekend and this Scripture was used by the person on DVD to explain a
situation he went through that was taking a toll on him. What is even more
fascinating is that I thought about that verse for a few days and then the
Christian radio station I listen to each day at work used this Scripture for
their daily power verse. Right then, I knew God was speaking to me and
reminding me that I needed to just fall into His arms of rest. I have been
tired and weary and He just said, "Zach, come to me, you need to rest and
give it all to ME!"
How about you? Are you tired and weary? Have you been facing some of
the most difficult situations and decisions than ever before? Are you
trying to get yourself out of bed and just make it through another day? Are
you tired and weary from trying to teach your kids God's love and ways, but
they just continue to backslide and rebel? Are you dealing with a spouse
who just cannot seem to stop with the drinking? Are you a parent who has
been dealing with a teen pregnancy in your house and there's little
connection between you both?
As I write this, I am thinking of all of you who may read this. I am
sending out a prayer that each one of you, no matter whether you are feeling
tired, weary or just close to losing hope, that you will remember God wants
you to rest in Him. Rest in Him knowing He is in control and He is going to
take care of you. Even if you feel that your situation is far from God's
control, it is NOT! He says "Come to ME". Go to Him. Seek Him. Pursue
Him. Communicate with Him. Pour your heart out to Him. Listen to Him.
Cry out to Him. Whatever you need to do in His presence, do it.
This Scripture is a powerful passage and I pray this week it has and will
speak volumes to you. If it does not address a concern in your life, maybe
you will be led to share this with someone else and encourage that person to
cry out to Jesus and seek Him.
The invitation is there. Jesus is waiting. Will you come to Him and
allow Him to take your weary soul and give you rest?
