"I'm Sorry Lord"
By Zach Wood
Psalm 115:1
Not to us, Oh Lord, not to us but to your name be the
glory,
because of your love and faithfulness.
On Sunday morning during our music time, we sang the song "Heart Of
Worship". As we sang the words, my heart started breaking as I thought
about how God wants me to worship with my life. I thought of the words,
"I'm sorry Lord for the thing I've made it". The heart of worship is truly
about seeking the very heart and presence of God. Nothing else! Worship is
not about how good we look on stage, how well we can sing or how great we
can play an instrument. God has gifted me with the ability to play guitar,
drums and sing, but none of it means anything if I am not doing it to
glorify God. If I am doing it solely to bring attention to myself and put
the spotlight on me, then I have completely lost the big picture.
As we sang the song, I just said to God, "I'm sorry Lord for what I have
made worship to be". It was a heart felt song coming from me that morning
because I felt ashamed for how I make it about anything but God sometimes.
Nothing else in life should be more enjoyable than bringing glory to my
Heavenly Father. His love and faithfulness are awesome and beyond
comprehension.
I ask you this week to ponder on this verse and remind yourself each day,
it is not about you, but about Him. This is the only way to healthy Kingdom
life. If you have found yourself falling into the trap of bringing
attention to yourself lately, I encourage you to just take time to spend in
prayer asking forgiveness from God and praying for Him to give you a heart
of worship for Him.
I absolutely love the first few lines of the song, "When the music fades
and all is stripped away and I simply come". We can use our talents and
gifts to bring Him glory, but He is looking way past that and asking us to
simply bring ourselves to Him in complete surrender. We need to recognize
that worship to Him is living a life of constant sacrifice from ourselves to
service for Him.
I'm sorry Lord. May it never be about me, but only about who You are.
This is the true heart of worship.
