"Constant Consultation"
By Zach Wood
Proverbs 3:5
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.

I've used this Scripture for so many devotionals, but I just had to use it for this one as well.

Last weekend, I bought some new tubes to put into our bike tires that we wanted to get going this summer for recreation.  I bought the tubes, put them into the bike tires and filled them up.  No problem at all!  Now we got this carriage rider thing to carry my daughter in to hook to my bike.  One of the tires had a tube, the other one did not.  I bought another tube for the one that only had a tire and filled it up.  I "thought" the tire read 65 PSI MAX.  I pumped it up to 65 and thought I'd give it one more pump.  KABOOM!  I thought a shotgun had gone off right in front of me!  I blew the tube completely.  I looked around to make sure no one had seen me make such a fool out of myself.  I drove to the hardware store and bought another tube making a comment that it read 65 PSI, but couldn't be blown up that much.  Much to my surprise, I got home, installed the tube, and just thought I'd check to make sure I had read the correct PSI information.  I had not!  The tire said 35 and not 65.  Whoa!  Little bit of a difference!  For some reason, the other tire tube went that far, but I deflated it and refilled it to 35.

As I went on through the day, I could not help but think how many times we misread information and mess things up.  I do not even have to ask if any one of us have been there.  All of us have.  We have all messed things up when we have misread information or just not paid close enough attention and hurried through something.  It is so easy to do.  When we miss something with instructions, we will definitely "pay the price" at some point, somehow.

Have you had a recent KABOOM in your life?  Have you done your own thing and disregarded something God was telling you to do?  Then, suddenly something else falls apart?  We often wonder what happened?  Proverbs says it so well here.  Trust in God.  Do not listen to your own thoughts and trust yourself if you think you know what is going on.  Only God knows what is going on and can lead you and I.  We can use common sense, yes, but we also have to realize God is our maker and creator, and only He knows the correct path.  He gives us guidelines and direction and we must follow what He gives us.  We need constantly consult Him for direction.  One slip up, and we can really mess things up.

I hope this devotional serves as a reminder and encouragement to all of us how much we need to depend on our Lord.  He knows way more than we'll ever know and He needs to be our consultation.  We cannot rely on our own understanding and guesses.  We simply cannot afford to make those assumptions.  Trust His leading ONLY.
