"Nothing Compares"
By Zach Wood
Psalm 145:1-3
I will exalt you, my God the King; I will praise your
name for ever and ever.
Every day I will praise you and extol your name for
ever and ever.
Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his
greatness no one can fathom.
Last Wednesday, I flew to Indianapolis to attend my grandmother's
funeral. It was a trip that I went on by myself for the first time in many
years. On my flight down there, I had time to myself to read, reflect and
just meditate on God's Word. It was a very refreshing time. Needless to
say, I had many emotions running through my heart and mind since I had just
lost a grandmother that had meant so much to me through the years. However,
while flying above the white clouds and just seeing the beauty of the sky,
it reminded me of how awesome and powerful God is. That whole flight, I
found myself just re-falling in love with my Creator. I read through this
passage several times and just meditated on how wonderful our Father truly
is.
I ended up reading this passage while sharing some words during the
service. What I concentrated most on and emphasized was the fact that God's
greatness is nothing we can fully comprehend right now. Not one of us can
even begin to experience the absolute fullness of God. Not until we go home
to be with Him. At the end of my sharing during the service, I mentioned
how wonderful it is that she gets to experience that greatness now being in
the very presence of God.
We go through a lot of situations in life, don't we? We experience
turbulent times and we think we will never survive sometimes. However, God
has promised so much for us. He wants to have a deep relationship with each
one of us. He desires that relationship no matter how hard it is sometimes
for us to take time to pray. He desires to hear us praise Him and exalt
Him. Worship is so beautiful to Him when we express ourselves in that way.
Our lives should be an expression of worship, no matter where we are or what
we are doing.
No matter what we experience here on earth, nothing at all compares to
what He has for us when we get home. All we can do is live every day in
worship and praise, exalting Him and lifting Him up. In this passage, David
invites us to share in his overjoyed expression of praising the King! Be in
awe of His greatness!
