"Greater Is He"
By Zach Wood
Philippians 4:13
I can do everything through him who gives me strength.
This is one Bible verse I am sure almost every Christian has memorized.
No matter whether you are a new believer or have been a Christian for a
number of years, this verse is essential to remember for our growth as
followers of Christ. Why? Paul is adamant about how Christ gives us
strength. He is always reminding us that we need to rely on Jesus Christ
for strength. This is easy to believe when life is treating us well and we
are enjoying bountiful blessings that are being showered down. However,
times come when the bountiful blessings don't seem so frequent and we tend
to lose sight of the fact that God is still in control.
Are you current in a phase of trial and your perseverance is being
tested? Maybe things at home have boiled you over and you feel you are
about to explode! I am sure parents of two or more children frequently deal
with this challenge. Perhaps you are experiencing sorrow or some other form
of hurt that you can't seem to shake off and you wonder if God is trying to
punish you for something you've done? It is hard, but sometimes God just
allows us to experience heartache, pain and trials just because He knows we
will grow through these times. You have probably heard this illustration so
many times, but how often do we forget that greater is He that is in me than
he that is in the world? We mentally know that God is great, but do we
honestly believe in our hearts that He is truly the Prince of Peace?
My wife and I are dealing with several situations which have brought some
stress and anxiety lately, but we are trying to remember that God is always
in control and that He will not leave our side, no matter what. He has
promised to remain with us and help us at all times. We must always
remember that we can do everything through Christ Jesus who gives us
strength. Our strength alone is not enough! We simply cannot survive on
our own willpower. God created us to need Him and He won't let us do things
alone and live that way. We can live another way if we choose, but sooner
or later, we become empty and realize that it's only by life lived in Him
that we can truly live by His strength.
I encourage you to be strong throughout whatever turbulent times you may
be experiencing right now. Never forget that we have a Father in heaven who
loves us and will never forsake us. We can always do everything through
Jesus Christ because He is our only source of true spiritual strength.
