"Forever Gratefulness"
By: Zach Wood
Luke 19:10
For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was
lost.
Such a short passage of Scripture, yet a profound statement from Christ.
This past Sunday morning, we sang a song at church talking about being
forever grateful for the Cross. As I stood there singing the words, I felt
ashamed at how ungrateful I act in my personal walk with Christ. I say that
I am a Christian, but my ungratefulness toward others and what God has done
for me makes me feel less committed some of the time. The Cross represents
so much and I feel that I do not care as much as I should. I write about
it, talk about it through my devotionals at church and even talk with
individuals, but I come up so short sometimes that I feel like a hypocrite.
God loves me and is working on me. He is working on all of you as well
because I know I am not alone on this one.
Each one of us deals with the bitterness of being ungrateful. We have
all had people be ungrateful toward us and it hurts! I can only imagine how
much pain it causes God to see His children being ungrateful for all that He
has done for us and continues to do for us. It is sad. However, we do not
have to focus on the sad note! We can turn our ungratefulness around and
become appreciative toward God and His goodness.
I feel that sometimes we are also not as grateful as we need to be about
the people who have died for our country to give us freedom. I am not a
person of politics and I probably never will be. Political conversations
are a turn-off for me. If you start talking politics to me, you might as
well be speaking Greek, because I will not comprehend what you are saying.
However, I do respect those who are serving, have served and those who have
lost their lives for the sake of our freedom. That is something I should be
grateful and reminded about each day of my life. My earthly freedom comes
from those who have served, but my eternal freedom comes from the One who
ultimately served and gave His life as a ransom for mine.
So, are we grateful or ungrateful. I hope and pray that we all strive to
be forever grateful for what Jesus Christ has done for us. He came to seek
and save the lost. Are we pointing others to Him or are we pointing others
toward our ungratefulness? I would hope you choose to point others toward
the Cross. That is my prayer. I want to be forever grateful to Christ,
making each day a Memorial Day for Him in my life.
