"Life Is Precious"
By: Zach Wood
James 1:17
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights,
who does not change like shifting shadows.

Just this past week, I found out that one of my co-workers had a two week old niece who died of SIDS.  As I spoke with him, my heart broke and tears formed in my eyes.  As we talked, I came to realize something so very important in my own life.  I began to realize how crucial each moment I have with my own little girl is to me.  As he spoke of the terrible tragedy, he saw a picture nearby of my daughter and made mention that it would be a devastation if I lost my own girl.  I was totally caught in emotion.  As I stood there, I could not even bare the thought of not having my baby girl in my arms each day and watching her grow.  I must admit, God really got my attention after hearing this terribly sad story.  I thought about how I need to really appreciate the life God has given to me, my family, and especially the beautiful life of my own baby girl.

Life is truly precious.  How often do we go about our daily routines and forget how thankful we should be that we even woke up this morning breathing?  We forget the little blessings God gives us.  As this new year has approached and is already moving quickly, it is my prayer that each one of us will take the time to thank God and praise Him for the life He has given each of us.  Not only being alive each day in the flesh, but being alive in Him!  We are alive in Christ!  He has given us life to the fullest!

For those of you who have children, I encourage you, in the midst of your hurried and hectic schedules, please take the time to love on them, nurture them and spend quality time with them.  Life is precious and the last thing you would want to do is come to a point where that life is no longer there.  I hope and pray that would never happen to your children or to a child in your family like it did to my co-workers' niece, but we all must realize that life is precious and is never guaranteed for the next day.  Please understand that I am not saying we should live in fear of this, but we should simply learn more to take the time and appreciate the life that is around us.  Not only life in our children and the children around us, but life is general.  God gives us life so that we can live it to the fullest for Him.

I encourage all of us to take the time to enjoy how precious life is, in the children we have, the friends we hang out with, family we spend time with and the life Jesus Christ has given to us through His blood.  What a way to live!  Amen?
