"Sundays Are Easy"
By: Zach Wood
Ephesians 5:15-16
Be very careful, then, how you live--not as unwise but as wise,
making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.
Lately, I have been thinking how wonderful it is to see my church family
and friends on Sundays. I love to fellowship, catch up with people on their
weeks. It is always fun to laugh, worship and fellowship with my fellow
brothers and sisters in Christ. What has been going through my mind a lot
lately is how easy being a Christian is on Sundays. For the most part, it
is easy for me to show Christ's love to others. It is easy to talk about
how I am growing and learning in my walk with Him. I am surrounded by
loving, caring and supportive people who share with me in life experiences.
I feel it is easy being a Christian on Sundays, because for me, being a
Christian the rest of the week is honestly hard. I find it very hard to
love people at my work place. I find it very difficult to share my faith
with co-workers. It is hard for me to bite my tongue when I get frustrated
with my co-workers. However, I am finding that God has been putting me in a
challenging situation for the past 2 years of my employment. I am working
at a place where people desperately need Jesus Christ! I find myself
praying daily that God would use me to show love and a Christ-like attitude
toward others. I need to be making the most of every opportunity I have to
share with others I work with.
How about you? Are you finding it difficult, as I am, to be a Christian
during the work week? I admire those who have few problems getting along
with co-workers and other people outside of work. I know some people who
seem to just have a natural tendency to love. These people always have a
smile on their face and they look for ways to share God's love. I learn a
lot from these people.
We all can learn much from the Apostle Paul. He speaks in chapter 5 of
Ephesians about being imitators of God. As I just shared, some people find
it very natural to be an imitator of God's love to those around them.
However, for many of us, we find it difficult to share Christ's love and
struggle daily to be imitators of His love. We let our human side take
control of many situations and we say things we really regret. Then again,
sometimes we do not say things we should have and then regret it.
We all need to learn to practice the words this passage begins with, "be
very careful how you live". Why do we need to be careful? Once again,
because of our human side. We might have Christ in our hearts, but there is
a human part of us that takes over sometimes and we get mean. Yes, we get
mean! We get angry, revengeful and sometimes ignore people we should be
sharing Christ with. When people see this attitude in us, they see a life
they do not understand. I am sure many people think, "If that is what being
a Christian is all about, I want no part of it". To be honest, I do not
blame them. People need to always see Christ shining through us, no matter
what.
It is easy to be a Christian on Sunday, but why don't we be a real
Christian during the week around people who really need to see Christ
through us.
