"A Fixed Gaze"
By: Zach Wood
Hebrews 12:2a
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.

Every time I look into my daughter's eyes, I see so much joy(when she's not crying), excitement and love.  She is just so joyful and playful.  I cannot explain why, but my eyes just get fixed on hers and I love to look at her.  I am reminded how blessed I am to have such a beautiful and wonderful little bundle of joy!  It is hard for me every day to go to work and be away from her until I get home from work at night.

It seems that the same thing happens to me often with my relationship with Christ.  There are times when my eyes are fixed completely upon Him and I cannot take my eyes off Him.  But, there are times, unlike times with my daughter, when I choose to take my eyes off Him and completely lose my focus on life.  I cannot change the fact that I am not home all day with my daughter.  Got to work and pay the bills!  However, I do have the choice in my walk with Christ.  I can either choose to keep my gaze upon Him and let things around me seem insignificant or I can focus and keep my gaze on the world around me and forget what is really important.  Now, I am not saying that life around me is not important.  Please do not misunderstand me on that.  I am simply saying that we must keep our gaze fixed on Christ and not on the world.  If we focus on the world and not on Christ, we lose our concentration on how Christ wants us to live.

My encouragement to each one of us is to keep our gaze on Jesus Christ.  He is the author and perfecter of our faith.  When we focus and keep our eyes locked on Him, then things around us seem to flow better and smoother.  This does not mean that life will be hunky dory, but it does mean that life will be much sweeter because we are living for Christ.  Let this devotional be a simple, yet important reminder that we all need to keep our focus on Christ.  Without Him, nothing else is important.
