"Are You STILL Amazed?"
By: Zach Wood
Matthew 7:28
When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching.

There are a lot of things that have amazed me and still amaze me in life.  I have always been thrilled and amazed with amusement parks.  If the ride goes upside down, I am on it!  When the latest computer gadget comes out, I am amazed at the stretch of technology.  I have always been amazed at other people's patience compared to mine.  I am amazed when I sing with a praise team and our voices and instruments blend so well for worship to God.  There are so many things that truly amaze me!  In the past 6 months or so, I have been so amazed at the beautiful gift that God has blessed me with.  My little girl is a bundle of joy growing right before my very eyes!  It is truly wonderful to see the daily changes and to experience the joy of being a dad.

We all like to be amazed!  There is nothing wrong with being amazed.  There are some people who know how to capture the attention of others with amazement.  Jesus knew how to amaze people.  I was looking up the word "amaze" online the other day and saw that the word comes up so many times in the New Testament alone talking about Jesus.  He amazed people with the miracles He performed, the words He spoke and the authority He exercised.  Many people just stood awestruck at the things He did and the words He spoke.  The passage above comes right after the Sermon on the Mount.  Jesus finished His speech and I can just imagine the looks on all the faces.  I bet there were some pretty shocked people hearing all these things from a man who claimed to be the Son of God!  I encourage you to look up the word "amazed" online or in your Bible and read some of the passages that come up.

The question I am asking myself these days is "Am I still amazed?"  Am I still amazed at what Christ has done for me?  Am I still amazed at the hope He brings for me in the times of hardship?  Am I still amazed at the beauty He puts in front of my eyes everyday?  Am I still amazed at the stories I hear of how He has touched people's lives or am I too caught up in my own agenda to even notice?  Some of these questions make me cringe because I know I am not as amazed as I once used to be.  I find that I need to be falling in love with my Savior each day and rediscovering His wonderful beauty.  He has placed so many beautiful things in my life and I fail to see some of those things because of my own selfishness.

How about you?  Are you still amazed at what Christ has done for you?  Are you still amazed at who He is?  Are we still amazed?
