"Kingdom Real Estate"
By: Zach Wood
Matthew 7:24-27
"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into
practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came
down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet
it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone
who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a
foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams
rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a
great crash."
I have no experience with real estate, but I do know that an agent would
never try to sell a family a home that has a terrible foundation. It just
would not be reasonable. Real estate agents want to show and sell a home
that has good value and a good, solid structure. It's quite the same when
we talk about God's Real Estate. His property is right within us. He moves
into our heart and wants to build a solid foundation. He does not want to
live in a heart that has a flimsy foundation. We do not own ourselves, God
owns us. I think sometimes we forget that we are not our own. Paul clearly
states in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, "Do you not know that your body is a temple
of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are
not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your
body." We are His temple and He desires for us to keep the temple clear of
clutter.
I have been reading through some of The Sermon on the Mount the past few
days and I am intrigued by this passage. Jesus tells us that anyone who
hears His words and lives them out, their faith will be strong and firm.
However, if anyone does not live out the faith and follows the ways of this
world, the foundation of faith will be flimsy and can be destroyed easily.
Any gust of wind by the enemy, and whoosh goes the house!
God wants to build valuable real estate in our hearts and lives. He
takes the messes we have created and makes beautiful mansions out of them.
However, He will not do all the work. It is our responsibility to do the
upkeep and make sure our temples are kept pure from the things of this
world.
One question stands out in my mind. Are we going to be Kingdom Real
Estate or Worldly Real Estate? I hope and pray that we all desire to have
Kingdom Real Estate and build a solid foundation each day in our hearts to
keep our faith firm.
