"A Great Adventure"
By: Zach Wood
Matthew 27:50-51a
And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his
spirit.
At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to
bottom.
As we near the Easter season, we take time to reflect and meditate on the
death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. It was
a horrific, tragic event. Yet, it was the most beautiful thing no other
person in the world had ever done before.....dying for the sins
of all people. When Jesus gave up his spirit and said, "It is finished", a
great adventure took place. The adventure no one knew was coming. A chance
for a relationship with Him directly. There was no more high priest to go
into the Holy of Holies to offer up sacrifices for everyone else. When the
curtain tore, God proclaimed a new adventure for us to have the opportunity
of coming to His Throne personally. What a privilege and the start of a
great adventure. Our lives with Christ is a great adventure and not one
that should ever end!
We have all had great adventures in our lives. Think back to some great
adventures God has given to you and the blessings through those times. The
adventures God gives us are totally unexplainable. They are indescribable.
And I think that's the way God wants them to remain, indescribable.
Several weeks ago, God gave my wife and I a brand-new adventure! We are
now the proud parents of a beautiful baby girl. She is a bundle of joy and
a treasure we'll enjoy for many years to come. Our lives are not the same
anymore and we are thankful for this new adventure God has placed in our
family. Every time I hold my daughter in my arms and look into her eyes, I
see the love bundle God has placed in my life. She is so precious to me and
I love her so much. Just in the past few weeks, there have been so many
little things we've observed that have made parenting such a joy for my wife
and I. We are so excited to be new parents and this is a great and
wonderful adventure. Sure, having a baby brings some pretty challenging
adjustments, but they are all well worth working through.
I'm thankful for the opportunity Jesus has given me to life a new life
for Him everyday. I'm still not living it the best ways I can and I have a
whole lot more learning and growing to do, but I'm trying. Aren't we all?
I hope so.
What great adventure has God given to you at this time? Maybe it's a
brand-new job. Perhaps it's the purchase of a new home. Maybe you've just
gotten married. Maybe you're like me and you've just had your first child.
Whatever the situation is, it's a great adventure. I hope and pray that we
all learn better how to savor and cherish the great adventure times God
gives to us. He gives us so many great adventure opportunities in life and
it's our job to climb aboard to enjoy the ride! As Steven Curtis Chapman
says in his song "The Great Adventure", "Saddle up your horses, we've got a
trail to blaze!", we've got a life to live, so we best start livin' it and
enjoy the great adventures in life!
