"A Totally AWESOME God"
By: Zach Wood
1 Chronicles 29:11 (NLT)
Yours, O LORD, is the greatness, the
power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens
and on earth is yours, O LORD, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as the
one who is over all things.
This is a passage taken right from David's
prayer after people had given so much toward the work of the temple. David
was so moved that he praised the Lord! Everything belongs to God: Power,
Glory, Victory, and Majesty! He has the most power of any being in this
whole universe. He is the most glorious of any creature that crawls this
earth. He has won a victory over death for us. His majesty rules
throughout the world. What an awesome God we serve, amen? As I was reading
through this passage last week, I found myself reading and re-reading it
over and over again, being filled with an awe of God! Does that ever happen
to you? Do you find yourself reading Scripture and totally falling in love
with the unfailing beauty of our Lord and Savior? I hope so.
We need to remember that He is always the One in
control. We are not in control. We sometimes like to be, but He is the One
who should be in control. None of us in this world has the ability to be in
control of everything, but He does!
For a moment, I want to focus in on the last
part of this verse, "We adore you as the one who is over all things". Do we
really adore Him? Do we lay our lives completely before Him in complete
surrender and raise our hands in surrender to His will? We should be
adoring Him and continually in awe of Him everyday. When we adore Him,
we are worshiping Him! And He deserves that praise! If we would just open
our eyes a little more and adore Him, we would see so much more of the
beauty His Kingdom holds. Of course, we won't see all of His beauty until
we see Him face to face when He brings us home. However, we can still get a
glimpse of that beauty if we just open the eyes of our hearts and ask Him to
show us His beauty.
There is no ending to the praise He deserves.
We simply cannot praise Him enough! As Rich Mullins wrote, "Our God is an
awesome God, He reigns from heaven above with wisdom, power and love, our
God is an awesome God!" He gives abundantly and blesses us with more than
we deserve! I hope this devotional brings an encouragement of an attitude
of praise within each of us. Perhaps we could each find some songs
that simply sing about the wondrous beauty of God and listen to those to be
reminded again of His Majesty!
I'll end with the a few more words from
Rich Mullins, "I hope that we have not too quickly forgotten that our God is
an awesome God!"
