"A Privilege & Responsibility"
By: Zach Wood
1 Corinthians 12:27
Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.

We have a lot of privileges in life, don't we?  Many things we are allowed to do and we certainly enjoy them.  Even with privileges comes responsibility.  We are each responsible for how we act, how we treat others and the example we set for those who are younger than us.

We need to also remember that we have the privilege of being in the body of Christ.  It, however, is also a responsibility.  We are all part of the body of Christ.  I am torn these days to hear so many sad stories about how people in churches treat each other.  I am not excluded, but I've not always done the best job that I can do in treating others with love and respect.  We have a privilege of being in the body of Christ because Jesus Christ has bought us and redeemed us!  With that privilege comes the responsibility of being an active part of the body of Christ.

I'm sure many of you are familiar with the Christian music group "Casting Crowns".  They are one of my most favorite Christian bands.  Why?  Because their songs reflect the need for us to look back to Jesus and into Scripture to remember and realize exactly how we are to be living in the body of Christ.  He called us to love one another and to do our parts so that the whole body works and serves.  My wife and I recently purchased "Casting Crowns: Live in Atlanta" CD/DVD.  We were watching the DVD the other day with music videos and testimonies.  My heart was so touched by some of the songs I hadn't really listened to closely before.  It seems like every song on the album is a wake-up call for us, as the body of Christ, to get going and reaching out to the lost for Jesus.

One thing Mark Hall, lead singer of Casting Crowns, said on the music video, was that God doesn't "need" us, He "wants" us.  He calls us to become part of what's going on and the things He's doing that are so very awesome!  He wants us to be involved and to serve.  Each of us has a responsibility to spread His Word with the gifts He has given us.  Isn't it time we really kicked up our service and living for the Lord?  As their song says, "If we are the body, why aren't His arms reaching, why aren't His hands healing, why aren't His Words teaching, why aren't His feet going, why is His Love not showing them there is a way?"

Each us needs to be doing better with our part in the body of Christ.  Let's get serving and witnessing!
